Today we worked at Desert Survivors. We put plants into bigger pots. We put the plants into 5 gallon pots this time. We also mixed the soil with lava rock. Lava rock helps the water to drain from the pot. Today we worked with Daniel because David was gone. Daniel told us that his favorite flower is the fairy duster (see picture below). Next, we folded brochures. We did this because they are having a plant sale on Saturday, July 9th for members and on Saturday, July 16th for people who aren't members. Daniel gave us a tour of the retail area. We checked to make sure the water spouts were on.
Monday
We were at UCP and one of the tasks we did was sweeping, we cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the bathroom, watered plants, cleaned up puddles of rain water, took out trash to the dumpster, we picked up trash cans from the street, raked outside, and cleaned windows. We got lots of praise from employees of UCP about our hard work. Tuesday Today was a good day because we got to stay close to UCP and ride the city bus. It was kind of relaxing, we didn't have to do actual work. While the bus was here we got to learn about how to ride the bus the proper way and we saw people get confused when the bus didn't stop for them. Riding the bus was so much fun. It was kind of sad that Michelle missed the bus ride, it would of been fun if she was with us. Today at the Cat Shelter
We did a lot of tasks and one of them was to clean the bathroom. We cleaned out the cat litter boxes, cleaned cat shelves, swept the floor, took out the trash, and cleaned out cat food cans. One of the students favorite part was seeing Duchess (black cat below) again and we got to meet a new one named June Bug (tabby cat below) and even got a lick from her. We also went to go play with the kittens as an award for working so hard. There were only 3 left after the kitten shower but they were still adorable to play with. We were sad that there weren't more kittens but that is good because that means they went to good homes. That doesn't mean there won't be more because there are still 30 to 40 kittens in the back of the shelter that are still too young to be adopted. On Monday
We worked at UCP and one of our task was to clean windows, water plants, cleaned doors, swept and mopped the floor, we took the trash out and we found out listening to music helps us focus, we worked as a team. Each one of us had a favorite task and one of them was to water plants, cleaning the windows, bring in the trash cans off the curb. On Tuesday We went to Live Theatre Workshop, We had to organize the kids costumes we did the scarfs, shirts, pants, While 3 of them had to get all of the trash bags organized one of them had to organize so office supplies. then all 4 of us went to take all of us took them to the big dumpster. One of us went to do some stocking of snacks and drinks. 2 of us cleaned the mirrors in the makeup room while the other student swept the makeup room, one of us cleaned the bathroom. On Wednesday Today we went to Desert Survivors We potted some plants, we also got to fix some tires. One of the students favorite part was to put the plants into bigger pots. It was nice to have gloves so our fingernails wouldn't get gross. Also got to experience putting air in tires and patch holes. It was really HOT and it was nice to work in the shade for the second half. Today the Green Group went to Live Theatre Workshop, so we can learn what we are going to do for the next few weeks. We found out that movies and Theatre are pretty similar. Also we learned what each job is and how hard each one is and what it takes to put on a Play. We can try on the costumes for fun. It was fun, Stephen was really polite and nice as we went around during the tour. It was pretty loud because there were kids there for a summer camp.
I almost gave up on doing my geometry homework, and I was “I can’t do this!” So I gave myself 5 minutes to chill out. Then I got up and said “Hey Anna, go and ask your dad for help on your geometry homework!” I didn’t give up on the geometry homework, because I knew that my homework was due the next day and I wanted to get a good grade in class.
Today we talked about Positive Mental Attitude.
Today is a good day because we learned how to act in an interview and what to do in an interview. But sometimes people have a bad attitude. When they walk into work, their whole mood changes. They can be mad a lot and they might cuss or something. A bad attitude can look like you are pitching a fit. Your boss might think that you aren't fit for the job anymore and you might get fired or written. So don't have a bad attitude at work or your boss might say "you're fired!" Try to stay as positive as you can. And also try not to let a bad attitude affect your co-workers. |
