Today we went to The Hermitage Cat Shelter and we cleaned the cat food cans. We cleaned the cat shelves, litter boxes, took out trash, and swept the floor. After we worked we played with the kittens and one of us played with the cats. The new kittens names were Heathcliff, Marcy, Starlight, and Desmond. Today was our last day at the cat shelter and we were very sad to leave the shelter and say bye to the kittens. Today Chase joined us because Jasmine was sick.
Today we went to Desert Survivors and fixed the doors. We switched the door handles on each door. We filled up the pots with dirt for the nursery. We got certificates for our hard work and completing 5 weeks work experience at Desert Survivors. They gave us pizza and gummy worm cupcakes to celebrate our last day. They gave us business cards so that we can keep in touch.
Today was our last day at Live Theatre Workshop. We cleaned the lobby we took out the trash, and we also dusted the stuff in the lobby. We took off the white tape on the stairs, because it was falling apart. The tape was there so that the people could see where the stairs were. We put more snacks and drinks out for the students and staff. We had fun on our last day at Live Theatre Workshop, and we are going to miss it.
Thank you cards are a way of saying thank you to someone that helps you do something. Your hand writing has to be neat and nice to understand the letter. We were writing thank you notes to each place we helped at. Thank you card are important to give out to people who help you.
Today we did work around building 635 at UCP. We cleaned the bathrooms. Cleaning the bathrooms isn't as bad as we thought it would be. We thought that there might be more of a mess and gross, but they are actually pretty clean to start with. We had to water all of the plants. They need a lot of water since it is so hot outside. It takes almost 2 hours total to water all of the plants, but we can do other work while the water is going. One student swept the kitchen, another cleaned the table and chairs, and the last cleaned the counter. We took out the trash and the recycling and put new bags in the trash cans. One student (with the help of the teacher) brought in all of the recycling and trash bins from the street. The bins were really hot on their hands, but they worked through it. The other two students cleaned the classroom - cleaned the tables and other surfaces, swept, and cleaned the windows. We checked all of the printers in building 635 and brought reams of paper if they needed more. We cleaned out the patio area. The table was REALLY dirty from the rain, so we cleaned that off. We also swept the patio and the stairs and raked up the leaves. See the picture below of our newly cleaned table.
We worked on our resumes today.
We went out to the Tropical Kingdom pet shop.
We saw fish, snakes, rabbits, birds, turtle, guinea pigs, hamster, and an eel.
You have to be 16 years old to work there.
They are a family owned business.
You have to be careful when working with animals because you can hurt them and they can hurt you.
We had fun.
Today we went to the cat shelter. We cleaned the cat litter boxes, shelves, bathroom, cat food cans, and swept. We did not see Orange Tail(Creeper) because he was at Petco trying to get adopted. We did not see any kittens at the shelter today, because they got adopted.
Anna and Katy helped Michelle type the blog today!
Today, we went to Hermitage Cat Shelter. Our task's were to clean the wall and cat cubbies. Three of us cleaned the litter boxes with the pooper scooper. One of us cleaned the bathroom. We cleaned out the cat food cans outside. One of us picked up the trash around the shelter. We played with older cats. We had fun at the cat shelter. A cat named Orange Tail likes to follow us around the shelter and likes to sneak out with us to the lobby. Anna calls him "Creeper" because he follows us and tries to creep out behind us. You can see his picture below.
Today we worked at Desert Survivors. We put plants into bigger pots. We put the plants into 5 gallon pots this time. We also mixed the soil with lava rock. Lava rock helps the water to drain from the pot. Today we worked with Daniel because David was gone. Daniel told us that his favorite flower is the fairy duster (see picture below). Next, we folded brochures. We did this because they are having a plant sale on Saturday, July 9th for members and on Saturday, July 16th for people who aren't members. Daniel gave us a tour of the retail area. We checked to make sure the water spouts were on.
Today at the Cat Shelter
We did a lot of tasks and one of them was to clean the bathroom. We cleaned out the cat litter boxes, cleaned cat shelves, swept the floor, took out the trash, and cleaned out cat food cans. One of the students favorite part was seeing Duchess (black cat below) again and we got to meet a new one named June Bug (tabby cat below) and even got a lick from her.
We also went to go play with the kittens as an award for working so hard. There were only 3 left after the kitten shower but they were still adorable to play with. We were sad that there weren't more kittens but that is good because that means they went to good homes. That doesn't mean there won't be more because there are still 30 to 40 kittens in the back of the shelter that are still too young to be adopted.
Today the Green Group went to Live Theatre Workshop, so we can learn what we are going to do for the next few weeks. We found out that movies and Theatre are pretty similar. Also we learned what each job is and how hard each one is and what it takes to put on a Play. We can try on the costumes for fun. It was fun, Stephen was really polite and nice as we went around during the tour. It was pretty loud because there were kids there for a summer camp.
