We did job searching questions at the University of Arizona, Park Place, Mercado San Agustin. We learned about self-care, exercise, hygiene and nutrition at the Garden Kitchen, Morris Udall Recreation Center, Walgreen's and the Jewish Community Center. We learned about diversity and appreciation of other people at the Jewish History Museum, a church, a mosque, a Hindu temple, a Buddhist temple, and the Chinese Cultural Center. We learned about volunteering at Pawsitively Cats, the Garden Kitchen, neighborhood gardens, and the Autism Society of Southern Arizona. We learned about transportation by taking the Sun Tran and then the Sun Link to Mercado San Agustin. We went to a job fair to learn about professionalism, staying focused, and asking questions. We went to the University of Arizona Disability Resource Center to learn about self-advocacy and accommodations. We went to the Library and got a tour. We learned about finding books, reserving rooms, reserving computers, and what it is like to work at a library.
Every Friday we brewed coffee and tea, and every Monday we sold it next door at the UCP building. We learned how to follow a recipe step-by-step. We learned how to sell and serve the beverages to the customers. We learned how to clean up after ourselves. We learned how to sell using cash and credit cards. We learned how to be sanitary and be careful not to fall or burn ourselves.
We played a game practicing professional phone calls. We did mock interviews. We prepared by dressing nicely and rehearsing for an imaginary job. Four people interviewed us. They were helpful and gave us feedback.
