Andrew - Self-Advocating

I will have to self-advocate when I’m in an IEP and knowing my IEP goals. Also I can talk about my post school goals and Dreams. Also I am in special education and it helps me learn better. I can explain to others how my disability impacts my work.
Self-advocating is important because people can understand and help you and make you feel better.

Self-advocating is important because you’ll get your needs met and be able to get help when you need it.

- Self advocating -

Self-advocating is important to me because: For people with a “disability” they need to self-advocate for modifications to the work place or school and they need to tell them to the teacher, principals, supervisor etc.

- When will you need to -

You will have to tell your supervisor you need a ramp if you’re in a wheelchair. You will have to tell someone if you need something to make life just a little easier.

Self-advocating is important to me because I am able to get accommodations for work, tasks, and projects that I may have problems with due to my disability. One accommodation that I would start with is that I need my employer/trainer to show me or let me do the task hands on because I learn better when I’m shown how to do the job. I might not need this for every task but if I don’t understand the task, that would be a great help. I would have to self-advocate when I’m getting a job. I would also have to self-advocate when at school; if the school doesn’t already distribute accommodations. Self-advocating is very important and a lot of people don’t think of it, some people may not know that they can actually do it either, and some people are too anxious to ask for accommodations, like me.

Self-Advocating is important to me because I self advocate at school and at home, sometimes I need help for reading and math and sometimes I struggle with math and reading. I Advocate when I need help everywhere at home or at school or at a friend’s house or at grandma’s house and grandpa’s house.

Self-advocating is important because people such as employers or teachers need to know how and what to teach you. They also can help and assist you with whatever you need help with.
You will need to advocate yourself when you’re working, get a job, etc.

The importance of self-advocacy is because if you have any disability, you have to ask for any accommodations that are appropriate or available for the job that you are applying for. For example, some jobs may require you to be in meetings that you may not have the social skills to speak on your behalf on the subject at hand. An accommodation may be that you have verbal or hand queues to help you get involved in the conversation. An accommodation should be reasonable though. You shouldn't ask to be not be involved in the meeting at all and just be doing your work instead of being in an important social setting.

I'm a visual learner and then I will make changes myself. I advocate because people need to know how to help me.

Self advocacy is important to me because I need help sometimes if I can't think of something in my head or i need the talk to staff. I need help when I do work or when I am upset.

Self-advocating is important because when you need help you can always ask for help when you need it. You can also ask your family or friends for help. I will have to advocate for myself when I get a car and when I get a job and when I buy food and clothing.
