We had a guest speaker come in and talk about what she did for a living and her name was Ginger. Her job title was bartender. She told us how to deal with customers that were not so patient. When customers get angry and upset because they're not getting waited on in a timely manner, she told us how she deals with them. How she does it is that she says, "I'll be right with you in a minute," but if they keep persisting, she might give in and help them anyways. It kind of goes with the saying, "the customers are always right," (in some cases.) I give bartenders props because my sister moonlights as a bartender and it is a risky job.
We’ve had fun – it’s been an adventure over the past four weeks. We’ve learned a lot from each other, including our teacher and helping us to reach our future goals.
We liked the outings; it opened our eyes to new things. The Job Fair at TCC was huge. We learned a lot about ourselves. We enjoyed going to Walmart and Dick’s Sporting Goods and the sections we could help people out with, and talking with the employees. We liked how organized Walmart was, it looked nice. We liked the guest speakers. We learned about nutrition. We liked the nutrition video. We learned about healthy choices, and using the juicing machine and composting. Hawkeye and Jenn and Kelly were fun too. We’ve learned some soft skills, and how to use the hard skills and soft skills together. It was helpful to draw the Circles of Support so we know our support system, and that we all need support in our lives, and who to go to for help. It has reinforced some skills like communication with each other and with employers. Having each other makes it easier. We learned about what we like and don’t like for jobs. We would like to stay in touch with each other – everyone has been great. |
