Mark:  (Intern)       The History of  Social Security

3/19/2015

There are many misconceptions and fears that people have in regards to the Social Security Administration.  Myself included.  Many people are under the impression that they will be unable to locate, or maintain employment, the myth is that benefits would disappear completely, which is not the case.  People who are interested in seeking employment can still work and receive supplemental income as well.  I am a firm believer that knowledge is power.  In order to thoroughly understand something, one may need to first understand the history.  The fallowing link will lead you to a video which talks about the history of The Social Security Administration. The history of the Social Security Administration.  Once someone understands the history, they might start to feel a little more at ease  about how the system functions.  There are other resources that can further assist you with navigating the bridge between employment and Social Security.  For example, Disability Benefits 101 can act as your vessel. It is going to be a difficult road, but with persistence and determination anything is possible.  Please remember, never give up on yourself, or your dreams.

I learned a lot of stuff at Workability.

I learned a lot through

role playing, phone skills,

interview skills and resume writing.

Now I am ready for a Job Coach to

help me to get a job.

I want to work three

days a week as a cleaner.

I hope this happens soon.

Well the day is finally here.
It seem like we’ve been here forever
We’ve had some good and bad day’s
we got through it. We made and lost friends on our journey.
But we made it as a team. We will miss each other. I wish Koa, Lenny and Todd
Luck on their  journey as they find employment, as for myself I will continue working for UCP as a receptionist and look for  part time work.  We would like to thank the whole workability team for being here for us .

Last Class To Go (Workability), Koa

The last day already approaches, as I prepare my dress suit of a shirt and jeans. I didn't think to bring my tie as a first impression to meet people. This last day makes me want to work out my next plan to move t a job as a Food Runner and Washer. I admit WorkAbility II has gotten me to get up in the morning (not a morning person).  What I liked about the role playing and guests speakers is that one person came in and explained the nature of money coming in, "saving" and what goes out "spending". Spending my day waiting for the food and the start our party. As the other students, Todd Lenny and Shawn move on their path to enrolling to Jobs they like. But I wish them luck on their future.

 Last day of workability- Todd

I have been at Workability since October. I have learned a lot, some of it I already knew. My favorite part of workability was the role playing and the guest speakers. The thing I learned that will really help me in life is when Justin Cummins came in and spoke about budgeting. I feel that will really help because I’m on my own and in my own apartment!

I can’t wait to work at Goodwill and learn the different work skills so I can get better jobs! I plan to stay at Goodwill then move on to a better Job. I hope to have a job possibly that might require a degree that would pay enough so I can get off social  security.

My Leopard Gecko and My Cat-Todd

My Leopard gecko is so cool! He thinks he is so Vicious he thinks he is a valoraptor, THAT'S WHY I NAMED HIM RAPTOR!! I put crickets in the cage and he thinks he is a mighty dinosaur, except he stalks the prey feline style.Raptor is a leopard gecko, they get their name from their pattern and their native habitat is the middle east, Countries like India, Pakistan, and Iran, In the wild they eat centipedes, spiders, scorpions, and small rodents.

I got a cat for Christmas from My Parents. I Got it because it didn't  get along with the other cats. I named the cat Catarina. I named her after the ice skater. Catarina likes to play, eat, lots of attention from people, and enjoys doing back flips and chasing laser lights.

I went to meet a friend downtown. We went out to eat. We went to Jimmy John. I had a sub sandwich and he had the  same thing. It was good. After that we went home and I watched Miami Vice before taking a nap.

Mark:  (Intern)                     Small Business

We all know that locating a job can sometimes be tedious, and difficult.  Sometimes we take jobs that we do not necessarily want.  We take any job just to make ends meet. However, there are exceptions to the rule.  Some people may already have a job, or career, that they absolutely love, but like anything in life there are no guarantees.  Unforeseen circumstances can arise, let us say for example, that the company you work for suddenly down-sizes, and layoffs occur.  What is one to do for income?

Fortunately, there are a couple of options one may want to take advantage of.  A person may decide to go back to school and pursue a college degree.  Yet another example of a life-changing decision might be to start a small business.  No matter which decision one may make, they both require a great deal of thought and planning.  You may feel overwhelmed at first; you may also feel as if there is no one to assist you in achieving your goals, luckily, there is help out there.  One example of assistance would be  About Score of Southern Arizona  another useful resource is the small business administration There may be some legal aspects to starting your own business.  They include trade marking of business name, incorporation of your business.  Etc. score of Southern Arizona is an organization that may be able to assist you.

Both Score, and the Small Business Administration, assisted me with procuring a financial loan, which I used to buy equipment such as a computer and software. The services offered by Score are open to the public free of charge.  Score is comprised of a network of retired business executives. If you would like more information, you may call:   (520)-505-3636

I, myself, have ran my own business at one point in my life.  I was in the business of designing websites for other small companies.  One piece of advice that I would give to those who are thinking about starting a business in the future is this: it's going to be a long, difficult road, but if it is a product or service that you truly believe in, anything is possible.  Never give up on yourself, or your dreams. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose to achieve.
