Personal Boundaries and Communication

Today we learned about Personal Boundaries and Boundaries in Communication. Personal boundaries help to protect ourselves. It is when we need to say no. Like if a friend asks us to stay out late when we have to go to work early the next day. Boundaries in communication is about who we should share what with. Like telling your family personal stuff but not strangers or your co-workers. We talked about what stuff is ok to share with the different groups of people in your like like your family, friends, community members, and professionals.

Professional Emails and Blogs

Last week we found out our learning styles through the True Colors Test. This week I am looking forward to learning about how to send a Professional Email and Blog. I enjoy blogging! We have also been talking about goals and jobs. We talked about professional appearance also meaning sitting up in your chair and not laying your head on the table and wearing appropriate clothes.

This is our first week of the Workshop A. We talked about the True Color Test. This Test tells you what your color is out of Orange, Green, Blue, and Gold. Each color represents different characteristics. It can help you figure out how you learn best and what strengths you bring to a team. It also helps you decide what jobs you might like or tasks that you prefer. I am Gold which means we like to work before play, we care about traditions, and we like things organized.

Today was our 1st day of the Adult Workshop. We talked about personalities and learning styles. We did a color test that helped us see our different styles and characteristics. I am a Gold so I like keeping things in order and structure. My secondary color is Blue so I am caring and a natural poet! I am also serious and tend to be more traditional and conservative.

We watched our video of the Final Film Project that we worked on. We practiced our lines. The other class watched our video and they really liked it. Then we went to Lucky  Strike Bowling. I got a few strikes and a few spares! It was fun being with the friends we made and eating pizza.

Training  Stations - Melanie

I enjoy doing training stations because I can learn different job skills. This week I worked on the Receptionist Station. I answered the phones, greeted people at the doors, and organized the shelves. I enjoy doing different stations because I like to be busy. I do not like down time. The training stations are fun and teach me different tasks.

Today we talked about the Disability Benefits 101 and about SSI. We talked about how much money you make in the workplace and how to calculate the gross wage in a per week.  We also looked up the website called Arizona Center for Disability Law and learned about what they do. ACDL helps with legal issues and things that affect your rights.
