Christina's Visit
Thanks Christina!!!
Jasmine Keli'i & Aaron
Christina's VisitThe UCP Trainer Christina came to our class and gave us a demonstration on CPR. We practiced chest compressions on a manikin. It had lights that turned blue if we were pressing at the right speed and depth. She showed us how to use an Epi Pen and then we were able to practice with fake ones. Christina taught us PASS-Pull Aim Squeeze Sweep when using a fire extinguisher. She also taught us some basic first aid like when you need to call 911 for a cut. If you put 2 gauze pads on and the bleeding doesn't stop then call 911! Christina also showed us an AED unit that is used to administer an electric shock to the heart. These are often found in Airports, Malls, and Sports Centers. We really learned a lot from Christina and are very glad she visited out class!
Thanks Christina!!! Jasmine Keli'i & Aaron

Personal BoundariesWe have been reviewing Personal Boundaries. Personal Boundaries include:
Keli'i Aaron Jasmine Review WeekThis is our last week of the Adult Workshop. We are reviewing topics that we wanted to go over again. I chose Personal Boundaries, Boundaries in Communication, and Teamwork. It is good to review and practice so that I am careful with my personal boundaries and keeping my private and personal information safe. It is good to practice scenarios so that you are more confident. I also reviewed who is part of my Team. It is important to know who is on your team so they can help you reach your goals. I am learning how to be the leader of my team!
Jasmine Training StationsWe worked on Training Stations this week. I did the Cashier/Money Handling, Bussing, and Janitorial Stations. I liked the cashiering station the best because I like math. I did well cleaning because I pay attention to details and I am very good at keeping things neat and orderly. I also dusted and learned about what you can use cleaner on and what you have to use a dry duster on. I think I would like to work somewhere I can help customers, organize things, and clean tables!
Jasmine SSI/SSDI Ticket to WorkThe Ticket To Work Program from Social Security let's you work and keep some of your benefits. Some people think that they can't work at all because they will lose their cash and medical benefit. Don't worry! You can work and still keep part of your benefits! Have a positive attitude and an I can Attitude and you will be great. You can network, go to Job Development, pull yourself together, focus, and have support along the way. Here is a success story that I would like to share with you. This is Larry's story.... Jasmine Mock InterviewsThis week we are doing practice for Interviews called Mock Interviews. I am helping by being the Videographer. When we are finished we can watch the videos and see what we did well and what we need to work on. Aaron and Keli'i have great eye contact and awesome handshakes. These are very important parts of interviewing for a job. They are doing a great job. We are all feeling more confident the more we practice. We all need to remember to ask for a business card after the interview. This way we will have the contact information of the Interviewer so we can follow up with them later. I like doing the filming. I look forward to another day of interviews tomorrow!
Jasmine Bus Trip!Today we went on a bus trip to learn how to use the public bus. We went from Workability to the Ronstadt Center downtown. Our first stop was the Transportation Museum. They have interactive displays so we got to listen to stories, see model trains, and use a telegraph machine. They had lots of small items on display that were used on the old trains like sets of dishes, signs, and different items conductors were given for years of service. The train car cuff links were pretty cool. We got to go on the Locomotive and see where the conductor would drive the train. Then we went to Empire Pizza. Our server was super nice and friendly and even gave us a free slice of pizza and a cookie! Then we went to the Library area and rested for a bit. We were pretty tired by then so we went back to the Bus station to catch our ride back to Workability. We had a great time and riding the bus is pretty easy.
Aaron, Jasmine, and Keli'i We visited The Garden Kitchen this week. We saw lots of different plants. We saw an Apple Tree that had a bunch of small apples on it. We walked around the Garden and saw how they plant vegetables with flowers to help them grow better. One of the Members is making a purple themed garden with purple potatoes, purple tomatoes, and purple bell peppers. That's my kind of garden!
Jasmine Nutrition and Healthy Food ChoicesThis week we learned about the importance of physical and mental health. We looked at the Garden Kitchen and Nutrition.org websites to learn about healthy food choices and how many servings of the food groups you should eat each day. We learned about some healthier options to fast food and how to make some of our favorite non healthy foods healthier. I like hamburgers and french fries. You can make this healthier by using ground beef and ground turkey mixed and cut up potatoes and bake them in the oven. Try to avoid eating a lot of sugary sweets like cake, pie, and cupcakes. Grab a piece of fruit it's sweet too!
Jasmine Professional Emails and BlogsLast week we found out our learning styles through the True Colors Test. This week I am looking forward to learning about how to send a Professional Email and Blog. I enjoy blogging! We have also been talking about goals and jobs. We talked about professional appearance also meaning sitting up in your chair and not laying your head on the table and wearing appropriate clothes.
