Self disclosure is talking about disabilities that you have. If you advocate for yourself, you'll find the best way to discuss your disabilities when looking for a job or advocating for yourself.

What I've Learned by Toneta

I learned a lot in nine weeks of class. It was really good to take this class for me. One of my classmates is okay. Is that good? I have my meeting today about my next step. It should go well.

People don't know about disability disclosure. It makes searching for jobs more difficult than it should be.  People with disabilities are treated like babies but they're actually real people that are adults. All people with disabilities should have an equal chance like everybody else. We all have problems. Maybe their problems don't show as much, but they're there. We deserve an equal shot.

I learned about bagging groceries.

Advocating for yourself and people that need help-- Advocating  self-determination for yourself is an important skill that I am working on.

I went to Walgreen's. I saw:
  1. Shampoo
  2. Toothpaste
  3. Mouthwash
  4. Soap
It is important to have good hygiene because you don’t want people to smell you.

SELF-CARE

We went to Walgreen's to look at hygiene products. I looked at mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, and a nail kit. Good hygiene is important for keeping you healthy and making sure people don’t have to smell you. Customers don’t want to buy things from people with bad hygiene.

I went Walgreen's. I looked at Hygiene products. I saw stuff to help me have good hygiene at work. I looked at shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and mouthwash. I learned it is important to have good hygiene because it keeps you healthy. It also helps you to get along well with your co-workers and customers.

I feel good with my interviews. I'd like to work with kids and Target and I got to practice what those interviews would look like. I learned a lot about communication skills. I feel like I got tested on my skills this week.

Interviews by Toneta

I learned a lot of experience about getting a REAL job by doing mock interviews this week. This is teaching me to get a REAL job. That is why I'm in this class. So when I go to an interview, it won't look like I'm dead. Today, I was walking really slow. But that's the truth though. I am really interested in getting voice typing program set up for my computer, so I can voice my opinions. I was kidding about looking like I'm dead. I do type really slow though.
