We learned about self-care and we also talked about eating right and getting enough sleep. We also discussed having good nutrition and staying hydrated. I learned about serving sizes on labels and how you may need to watch this. For example, the energy bar you may be eating is actually 2 servings so more sugar and calories.

It is important to know how to take care of yourself. The ways you can do this are by eating the right food and having good nutrition and by getting enough sleep. We watched a video on cooking healthy food. We also talked about having good hygiene, exercising regularly, and staying hydrated.
Keli'i We learned about making healthy food choices. We looked at recipes and went to YouTube to watch videos on how to actually make the recipe. You can learn to make anything on YouTube! We talked about ways to make food healthier like using olive or coconut oil, limiting red meat to a few times a week, and cutting fat by using reduced fat milk and cheeses. We compared frying to baking and sautéing. We talked about limiting soda and choosing to eat a piece of fruit instead. Today I brought a healthy organic fig bar for my snack instead of Doritos!
It is important to have some coping methods to help reduce stress and be healthy. Here are some examples of coping methods we use:
Jenna, Keli'i, and Aaron To start the Workshop we talked about the orientation packet and our learning styles. It is important to know your learning style so you can be your best! If you are at a job and the boss starts telling you some things you need to do, but you are a visual learner, then you can use your self-advocacy skills to speak up and let your boss know you will do a better job if you can put the tasks on a checklist. Next we also learned about safety at work, home, and the community. In order to be safe you may need to practice the safety skills, like how to say no. Keli'i We learned about how to handle conflicts in the workplace like who we can go to if we have a problem. We practiced what to say and talked about how things like body language and expressions can communicate our feelings. So, when we are dealing with conflicts at work, we need to be aware of those things. I like this workshop and would suggest if you want to find a job in the community then check out my program. I have fun but I am also learning about what it takes to be competitively employed! Jenna |
