Everything that we did in the past twenty weeks in the WorkAbility Workshop class -Matthew and Eric12/18/2018 Over the weeks we went to many places and learned many things.
We did job searching questions at the University of Arizona, Park Place, Mercado San Agustin. We learned about self-care, exercise, hygiene and nutrition at the Garden Kitchen, Morris Udall Recreation Center, Walgreen's and the Jewish Community Center. We learned about diversity and appreciation of other people at the Jewish History Museum, a church, a mosque, a Hindu temple, a Buddhist temple, and the Chinese Cultural Center. We learned about volunteering at Pawsitively Cats, the Garden Kitchen, neighborhood gardens, and the Autism Society of Southern Arizona. We learned about transportation by taking the Sun Tran and then the Sun Link to Mercado San Agustin. We went to a job fair to learn about professionalism, staying focused, and asking questions. We went to the University of Arizona Disability Resource Center to learn about self-advocacy and accommodations. We went to the Library and got a tour. We learned about finding books, reserving rooms, reserving computers, and what it is like to work at a library. Every Friday we brewed coffee and tea, and every Monday we sold it next door at the UCP building. We learned how to follow a recipe step-by-step. We learned how to sell and serve the beverages to the customers. We learned how to clean up after ourselves. We learned how to sell using cash and credit cards. We learned how to be sanitary and be careful not to fall or burn ourselves. We played a game practicing professional phone calls. We did mock interviews. We prepared by dressing nicely and rehearsing for an imaginary job. Four people interviewed us. They were helpful and gave us feedback. Eric, "I will miss this class." Matthew, "I will see you in January." Today we went to the job fair and asked people questions about jobs. They explained about what they do such as call on the phone, help people in trouble on the highway, answer the phone, navigate a submarine or sail a ship. They explained about respect and getting along and maintaining focus.
We went to Pawsitively Cats last week and got a cat tour. We also petted some cats. We learned about how to adopt pets and take care of them. We learned about volunteering.-Matthew
This week we went to the Garden Kitchen learned about different types of plants and how long it takes for them to grow. We also put soil and water in some pots and brought them to Workability. We tasted many kinds of leaves such as spearmint, lemon, and broccoli.-Matthew
Last week we did mock interviews. We were dressed perfectly and rehearsed for them. On Wednesday and Thursday we had the interviews done here and next door. We did a great job.
A few Fridays ago we were picked up by Sun Tran and rode for practice. Then we took the Sun Link. Then we got into Mercado San Agustin where we had lunch at a restaurant and went for a walk. I really enjoyed it.
Today we sold coffee and tea. -Jess
We gave them ice and sugar. -Matthew We used coffee cubes instead of ice cubes. -Misty This time we had a cart. It was easier to use than carrying the tubs. -Eric Professionalism is dressing properly, turning off your cell phone, and being on time. If someone is doing illegal, you call security. Professionalism is not gossiping, not talking on your cell phone, and not stealing. It also means doing more than what you are told to do.
